Palm trees, miles of golden sandy beaches,
fascinating lava landscapes, exquisite Canarian cuisine and an
almost perfect year round climate - Lanzarote ensures a unique
holiday experience.
UNESCO has declared Lanzarote a World Biosphere Reservation for its
protection and conservation. The island is completely different from
other Canarian islands due to its vast coverage of solidified lava
and volcanic rock and the influences of the Great Canarian Architect
and Artist, Cesar Manrique whose hard work and determination helped
in creating the charming island that we see today.
The island has many interesting places to visit, you can travel from
the North to the South of the island in less than 2 hours. Explore
vast caves at Cueva de los Verde (Green Caves), the amazing
Timanfaya National Park which will no doubt leave you speechless
with its lava landscape and many volcano craters - enjoy the peace
and tranquillity of Jameos De Aqua or spend fun filled days at
Rancho Texas Theme Park or the Large Water Park in Costa Teguise.
There are many small villages nestled in the islands mountainous
landscape, here you will get an insight into typical Canarian life.
Off the beaten track, you will find small bars offering excellent
tapas, canarian cuisine and local made wines.
The islands capital, Arrecife (meaning reef) is best described as a
bustling, friendly and unpretentious city. It offers a wealth of
duty free shopping and hosts an outdoor market offering an
interesting array of arts and crafts which is located along the
seafront promenade on Wednesday mornings. There are a vast array of
tapas bars and restaurants offering all types of cuisine including
the notable Five Star Gran Hotel Restaurant located right on the top
floor of the only high rise building on Lanzarote…..a perfect place
to wine and dine whilst taking in the stunning views and spectacular
sunsets. There are plenty of interesting places to visit here,
including Museums, Art Exhibitions, Castillos (castles or forts
built to protect the island from invading pirates) and the beautiful
Church of San Gines.
All in all, Lanzarote offers a truly memorable holiday not only for
its impressive scenery but also for the vast array of interesting
places to visit and the wealth of activities on offer.
Lanzarote is an island that you will never forget - it really is
exceptional!!!
